Needing Inspiration

Our side yard has a pretty large debris pile in it from the many projects we have done on the house as well as the ones the previous owners tackled.  Not too long ago I found one of the original doors to the upstairs rotting away in it.  I was going to try to use it to replace another cheaper hollow core door downstairs  but it was too far gone and the center panel fell apart.  Now I’m trying to decide what to do with it:

It’s great old wood and with some cleaning and waxing, the patina would really show.  But what sort of cool and pretty yet useful thing could it be?  I thought about chicken wire in the center but can’t figure out what purpose that would serve.  Also thought about a mirror on the back or a chalkboard with maybe some herb pots around the sides?  Is there something horizontal I could do?  I don’t know…I’m stuck!

That’s why I need all of your creative minds to get me through this mental block.  If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!  Thank you in advance!

Hmmmmm- if it’s big enough, you could turn it into a headboard with either wood or fabric in the open slot? Maybe it’s even big enough for you to trade in the full bed for a queen!! Or it could work as a giant planter box…

Thanks Mer! It could be a cool rustic headboard with maybe an upholstered center. Maybe a planter too if it would hold up…

The first thing I thought of was mirror, but I think that’s because of the advice you gave me recently. ;)

I don’t have any ideas now, but let me think on it…

    Ok, here are some.

    Huge tack board for inspiration?

Attach copper pipe to each side and lean against wall for pots and pans or magazines, or towels?

Thanks Camille–these are great! I think the copper piping would look really great against the old wood. Or even just with towel bars going all the way down. We could use a new message board though too in the office. Hmmmm…

    Hey Lane!
I first thought of putting a mirror in it and lean it against a wall. Then I remembered a picture I saw either on line or in a magazine were someone took old doors and made a screen out of them. She had a planter (attached?) at the bottom and trained flowering vines up the doors. She used it as a wall divider in an outdoor livingroom. I think you could string jute, wire or fishing line in the cut out section and have the vines climb up it.

It’s actually cool, just the way it is…what a lucky find!

This is cute too…if you have an existing fence.

My first thought was a mirror as well. Its so beautiful though and such a nice shape I think it would look good just as it is. A little (big actually) piece of art somewhere. It could hang vertically or horizontally. Would make an awesome frame for some art, or be beautiful hung all on its own. I know you’ll think of something fab! It really is a good piece.

You know, when I first saw it I thought the top of a coffee table perhaps with glass covering it. But then, I like huge furniture so….
Cover some cork board with linen and make a bulletin board, and to second the others, a frame or chalk board as you said.
Good luck, I look forward to seeing your final decision reveal!

Fill the center with seeded glass- slightly turquoise maybe and use as a privacy partition in a bathroom? Or hang sideways and hang in a room to filter light through.

Fill center with copper colored hardware cloth ( Wire fence), add some s hooks, add hooks at
corners and chain and use as a hanging pot rack

Fill the center with fiber board and batting and interesting material and hang horizontally over bed as a headrest while reading
