Limelight Hydrangeas and Antique Glass

My MIL sent me this beautiful green glass bottle to sell at the flea market but I couldn’t part with it!  She said it was exactly like the one her aunt used to keep water in in the fridge so it would stay cold on those hot Arkansas summer days.  I decided to keep it and yesterday cut some limelights from the front bushes:

I know, everywhere I look on the blogosphere it’s another picture of hydrangeas but they are so pretty this time of year it’s hard not to post about them!  And I have to say, the limelights have got to be my favorites.  They are such a pretty color and I am in love with them in this green bottle!  As soon as I opened it I knew I couldn’t sell it…

I don’t actually have an office in our home–I do most of my projects in the laundry room, back yard or front porch–but I do most of my blogging right here at our kitchen table.  I like to keep fresh flowers here as much as possible.  It makes sitting here and drinking my coffee in the morning so pleasant.  It’s almost an indulgence but it makes such a difference to me.

Flowers do wonderfully for my mood too. And when there is nothing I can cut in my yard, Trader Joe’s always does the trick. :)

I do love getting flowers at TJ’s! They’re so affordable I never feel guilty!

That’s a great color. It’s depression glass, no?

I put in a few Limelights last summer and they’re performing really well this year. Not only love the color, but they seem resistant to the heat and drought. I’m going to talk to my neighbor about possibly removing the chain link fence between our properties and plating a hedge of them.

Thanks Steve. It is depression glass. I am wishing I had put limelights where I planted the annabelles this year. The annabelles are so pretty but not great in the sun. Maybe they will do better when they are more established. The limelights are doing great though!

How pretty is that green glass? Just lovely with the hydrangeas in it. I was just out looking at how my hydrangeas are changing color. Seriously love how much mileage you can get out of a bush!

Thanks Lisa! I agree, hydrangeas just keep on giving. I just wish they weren’t so bare in the winter…

I never tire of hydrangeas and those are so pretty. I also love having fresh flowers around. We’re in desperate need of some rain here in PA, so our flowers are not looking so hot. I had a nice range of roses to choose from earlier in the summer, but they’re not doing real well right now. Something else that I do is when I’m having a rough day at work, I go up to Chestnut Hill (which is a quaint little part of Philadelphia – the NW section) and get a latte at my favorite coffee shop.

Thanks Holly! I’m sure the drought has taken its toll on so many gardens this year. I hope we all get some good rain soon. Coffee is a great mood enhancer too and just getting out and away for a little while is such a nice treat!

You are so fortunate to have several gorgeous hydrangea bushes to pick and choose from, but the limelights are my favorite! And the green glass? You know how I feel about green glass. :)
