House Tour: Dining Room

I’ve been trying to get the house in order so I can put together a house tour for the blog but there are so many rooms in transition that I find myself posting about the same old rooms over and over again!  Here are some updated shots of the dining room which is right off of our kitchen and serves as a pass through as well.  It’s the first room you see when you come in our front door.  Similar to the bathroom, I’ve been trying to bring a lot of plants and green into the house everywhere lately…

Here is a before picture from right after we first moved in 4.5 years ago.  As you can see I was experimenting with a dark gray that I didn’t end up keeping:

The above photo shows our entryway too.  I’ll be posting other bits of the house here and there as I get it ready.  Hopefully when school starts I will have more time to get some of my projects crossed off my list.  And we will be out of town next week for our first ever camping trip with the kids so I won’t be blogging much, if at all.  Camping with a 2 year old can be fun, right?  Really, I’m looking forward to getting away with just us and especially excited about getting to see the kids playing in the woods–that doesn’t happen much around here.  But I’m nervous about all the packing and prep–so many things to remember to take…

Have a great weekend!

Lane, your house is SO full of character and beautiful elements!! I’m dying over those gorgeous windows!!!! And the built in cabinets and board and batten – they are so fabulous!! I can only imagine when you looked at this house how many different things you fell in love with as you walked through it.

I adore the long bench you have at the table too….I’d like to have a bench or a banquette in my dining room someday…..it’s so homey and I love the idea of being able to squeeze one more person (or kid) – always room for one more.

Thanks for sharing yet another room of your house that I am swooning over! Can’t wait for more of your home tour! **Have a wonderful time camping!**

Thanks so much Lisa. It was definitely a diamond in the rough when we found it. It’s hard for me to remember it now but there was 80s carpeting everywhere, unflattering paint colors, old decrepit bathrooms and layouts from the 70s when it was broken up into apartments, water damage, a weird Mexican style kitchen (not bad but not appropriate for a 1902 craftsman), and a crumbling foundation and 35 year old roof. Luckily, it scared most buyers away (almost including my husband!) but I was able to convince him and here we are with a home we love–even though there will always be projects! (Still so many projects…)

The bench was a salvage find and it does make dinners easier with the kids and makes the table take up less room. Sometimes I think about painting it but I love wood!

Thanks again for checking it out.

I’m with Elizabeth – I could look at your house over and over. And the dining room is another one of my favorites. I’m such a sucker for Windsor chairs so of course I love that moment that you’ve created in your dining area. I actually just took a photo of our Windsor bench in the dining room while the room is empty – it’s so darn pretty I wish it could just stand alone but we actually need to use it in our dining area. You have a vision and that takes a special eye – there’s a reason you found this house and look at what you’ve done to transform it. Looking forward to more of your house tour – I’d love to be able to get ours together at some point. Enjoy your camping trip – sounds like challenging fun :)

I have a thing for windsor chairs/benches too. I love them! I am always on the lookout for one to go with the one I have in the dining room so I can make the end chairs but it hasn’t turned up yet. My MIL has windsor chairs for all her DR chairs and it looks so beautiful. I think I have seen that bench on your blog (is it on one of your design boards?) and I LOVE it. I’m really looking forward to your house photos.

Your dining room is beautiful Lane! How nice to see more of your lovely home. I can relate to sharing the same rooms over and over again. So many of mine are in transition and it seems there is little time to do anything about it. Good luck with your camping trip!

Thank you so much Rene. I am committed to getting at least a few more rooms together this fall! I think I will focus on our office and the kids’ rooms. I don’t know when I think I’m going to get it all done though…:)

It’s beautiful! I love the earthy natural touches you have throughout – beautiful as usual. :)
